Who Do You Think You Are? banks the top spot with 6.2m viewers

BBC One’s long-running ancestry series Who Do You Think You Are? ended on a high of more than 6.2 million viewers last night.

The final episode of the current series, which saw The Office actor Martin Freeman trace his paternal roots, secured the highest ratings during the all-important peak hour with 6 million average viewers and a 27.8% share.

BBC Two’s Dragon Den came in second behind BBC One in the 9pm to 10pm ratings war with an impressive 3.6 million peak viewers and a 14.9% average audience share.

Channel 4’s Big Brother, meanwhile, pulled in a respectable 2 million peak viewers and a 8.9% share, putting it in front of ITV1’s Champions League Live coverage and Five’s action thriller film Inferno during the prime time slot.

ITV1’s Wednesday night football, which saw Panathinaikos lose to Atletico Madrid 3-2 in the first leg of the play-off round, kicked off with a high of 1.8 million viewers at 7.30pm but slipped down to a low of 742,000 in the final fifteen minutes of the game.

The match attracted an average 1.4 million viewers and a 7.3% audience share between 7.30pm and 10pm, while Five’s Inferno picked up 1.3 million average viewers and a slightly lower 6.9% share between 9pm and 10.55pm.

Earlier on in the evening, BBC Two’s Live World Championship Athletics coverage continued to do well with more than 3.3 million peak viewers.
