World In Action Not Doomed
ITV has issued a statement with regard to the rescheduling of Monday nights as a response to the third episode of Eastenders. There was much made in the national press of the decision to abandon World In Action in favour of a higher ratings puller, and caused speculation that the show would be totally axed or put out later than its usual peak-time 8.30pm slot.
ITV’s chief executive Andrew Quinn said, “World in Action has been an important ITV commitment for more than 30 years. It remains so. In recent times it has frequently attracted one of the biggest audiences of the night… the ITV Network Centre will continue to schedule it in a peak-time slot on Britain’s most successful channel.”
He added that “Wishful thinking among people who would like to see ITV go down market is unhelpful and misplaced.”
