WPP Acquires French New Media Agency

Advertising and marketing group, WPP, has today announced the acquisition of French new media agency Mediaquest Sarl for an undisclosed sum. The Paris-based agency has handled the interactive campaigns for high-profile blue-chip clients including France Telecom and Lacoste.

Under the deal, Mediaquest will be merged with WPP subsidiary OgilvyOne’s existing French new media operation, OgilvyInteractive. The combined group, with revenues of FF30 million (£3 million) this year, will become one of the top five interactive agencies in France. OgilvyInteractive had worldwide revenues of $60 million (£38 million) in 1998.

The acquisition of Mediaquest continues WPP’s drive to establish a leading position in new media, one of the fastest-growing sectors in communications services. Earlier in the month, the company announced the creation of a dedicated internet and new media division called wpp.com (see WPP To Open Umbrella Internet Company)
