WPP Buys Into On-Line Shopping Service
The WPP Group has taken a minority stake in Peapod, the leading American home-delivery grocery service. Peapod offers PC-based home shopping and delivery to consumers in Chicago, San Francisco, San Jose, Boston, Columbus and Houston. They work in partnership with local retailers.
The joint venture between WPP and Peapod will be overseen by Eric Salama, Group Director of Strategy at WPP and Tim Dorgan, President of Peapod Interactive. WPP have forged a link with this US company to provide its clients with a leading-edge understanding of electronic commerce and consumer behaviour.
WPP’s investment in Peapod is the latest in a series designed to help its clients have a better understanding of the impact interactive technologies will have on their businesses *WPP Buying Stakes In US Technology. Previous investments have included Wired Ventures Inc, Broadvision Inc, Individual Inc and Media Technology Ventures.
