X-Rated Fail To Hit The .net

X-Rated Fail To Hit The .net

.net magazine has banned X-rated advertisements. The April issue will be the last to carry adult adverts.

The decision was taken following a meeting between .net’s editorial and advertising departments, at which concern was raised about the explicit nature of certain sites advertised. Although the Web sites and bulletin boards advertised require age verification before users can log on, many of the sites’ previews do not, and these can sometimes be as explicit as the sites themselves.

Richard Longhurst, editor of .net comments: “We’re not seeking to censor the Internet or make moral judgments about pornography, we are simply ensuring that the advertisements we carry are appropriate to our readership. Adverts which could lead children to explicit X-rated material are clearly not acceptable.
