Yahoo Confirms Departure Of European Managing Director

Yahoo! Europe has confirmed that it is currently searching for a new managing director after Mark Opzoomer announced his intention to step down to pursue other business interests.
Opzoomer will leave the company at the end of the year, but it is not known whether he has another job to go to. Unconfirmed reports suggest that he may be involved in launching another company.
Yahoo!’s senior vice president of international operations, John Marcom, will take over from Opzoomer in the short-term. However, it is understood that the portal is in the process of approaching headhunters to seek out external candidates for the role.
A spokesperson for Yahoo! UK & Ireland said: “We are currently looking outside the company and when the right person comes along an announcement will be made. Mark will be with Yahoo! until the end of the year, but we are currently going through a transitional period and no firm leaving date has been set.”
Opzoomer joined Yahoo! Europe in 2001 with a remit to boost advertising and subscription revenue in its range of local territories, which include the UK and Ireland, Germany and Spain. He was instrumental in securing the deal that saw the company join forces with BT to launch the BT Yahoo! Broadband internet service earlier this year (see BT Yahoo! Broadband Launch Supported With £10m Ad Push).
Last month Yahoo! UK & Ireland launched a competition to win £30,000 worth of free media space in an attempt to promote creativity in online advertising and integrated marketing campaigns (see Yahoo! Promotes Creativity With Media Space Give Away).
