Yahoo! UK And Ireland Appoints New Sales Director

Yahoo! UK and Ireland has appointed former business development director of Viacom Outdoor, Alison Reay, as its new sales director.

Reay, who replaces long-standing commercial director Lee Thompson, will be involved in the next phase of Yahoo’s business strategy and as such will be responsible for marketing the company’s online solutions and developing the Yahoo! brand. She will report to managing director Martina King.

Prior to joining Viacom Outdoor, where she is understood to have been one of the senior directors behind the delayed XTP project (see XTP System Will Not Launch This Year), Reay worked at the Mirror Group, Granada and Satellite & Cable.

Last month Yahoo!, which has been hard hit by the advertising downturn (see Yahoo! Cuts 400 Jobs Worldwide), announced plans to close its European auction services and promote those of rival company eBay. The internet search engine signed a multiyear marketing agreement with eBay to promote its auction services through banner advertisements, text links and other promotions on Yahoo sites (see Yahoo Closes European Auction Sites).
