Yahoo! Unveils New Online Ad Formats

Yahoo! UK and Ireland is launching four new advertising formats to give internet ads greater visual appeal than conventional banners.

The formats have been created to cater for the ” increasingly sophisticated” needs of online advertisers and are designed to promote creativity within the medium. Internet travel portal

The other formats are a homepage streaming ad; a corner fold, giving the effect that the advertisers site is under the Yahoo! site; and a corner tear, which provides a torn effect separating the ad from the product homepage.

Yahoo! UK and Ireland’s commercial director, Lee Thompson, said: “We are increasingly looking to develop new ad formats to go beyond the traditional confines of banner advertising. These new formats are impactful as they derive benefit from a tighter integration with relevant content and a strong visual appeal.”

Last month Yahoo! announced plans to cut around 400 jobs world-wide as part of a move to restructure the business and move away from its reliance on advertising revenue (see Yahoo! Cuts 400 Jobs Worldwide).
