Yorkshire TV Profits Soar
Yorkshire TV’s 1995 financial figures show an increase in pre-tax profits from £13.0 million to £21.6 million. In a statement which indicates recognition that a takeover bid for YTTV is likely in the near future Ward Thomas, the company’s chairman, said that he was ‘looking closely at the opportunities’ which a takeover bid may offer YTTV.
Other figures show that earnings per share had increased from 14.3p to 28.7p, turnover had increased from £244.7m to £261.8m, and advertising revenue increased from £154 million to £169 million.
Mr Thomas pointed out the strengths of the company’s productions which include A Touch of Frost, Emmerdale and Heartbeat, but said that though YTTV’s advertising spend as a share of Channel 3’s revenue had increased to 10.7%, this figure was disappointing. In the past a 14% share had been achieved and the target for this year is an over 11% share which ‘should continue upwards from there’ until it exceeds 14%.
