Young Don’t Like 5
More than a third of 15-24 year olds do not like Channel 5, according to the latest CIA sensor. This age group is a key target audience for 5.
5 is trying to attract young viewers, and the advertisers targeting them. Yet 35% of the 15-24 year olds surveyed think that the channel is worse than expected and 38% think that it is worse than its rival channels.
The survey did predict that Channel 5’s young audience is likely to grow if it can improve its reception quality. Anthony Jones, head of CIA MediaLab, said: “Channel 5 has the potential to attract a larger audience. As reception, rather than programming, seems to be one of the main reasons why a lot of people do not currently watch. Channel 5 must continue to find new and improved ways of delivering its signal and convince non-viewers of the quality and breadth of its programming.”
