“You’re fired!” – Lord Sugar has a bust-up with Desmond after announcing YouView departure

Lord Sugar has announced that he will be stepping down as non-executive chairman of internet TV service YouView.

The news came on Friday, with Lord Sugar saying that he wants to focus his time and attention into his other businesses.

Lord Sugar commented: “When I joined YouView in 2011 my brief from the shareholders was to use my experience in the electronics industry to get the product to market and into the homes of consumers.

“Having done that successfully, my job is complete and I will now focus my time and attention into my other businesses.”

Not long after Lord Sugar announced that he would be quitting YouView, a furious board-room bust-up occurred between himself and media mogul Richard Desmond.

The argument between the two business magnates is believed to have been prompted by Lord Sugar’s announcement, with the pair shouting and swearing in front of over 100 staff.

A source reported that Desmond ran away from Sugar before shouting, “You’re Fired!”, one of Sugar’s trademark lines from his show The Apprentice.

Desmond brought Sugar into the YouView service two years ago, with Sir Alan earning £500,000 per annum.
