Youth Support The Press
It is often assumed that most young people are not regular newspaper readers. However, a recent survey conducted by Mori and City University and reported in yesterday’s Guardian has found little to support this myth.
Two out of three of the British public read a national daily on a regular basis. The survey used a sample of 72,000 15 to 24 year-olds and discovered that the figures for this age group is in line with the national average. Indeed, these figure exceeded that recorded for both 25-35 year olds and 35-44 year olds.

52% of young people read mid and down-market titles. Amongst all youth readers, TV and radio listings were a major attraction, followed by football and entertainment. The biggest surprise was that young people want to read about international, as much as home news.
So, falling newspaper readership cannot be blamed on young readers; the young may even help to secure the future of the press.
