YouTube launches Leanback for no-click viewing

YouTube has launched a new service called Leanback, which shows a continuous stream of full-screen, high-definition video.

Visitors to YouTube.com/leanback – currently in beta –  get a feed based on their YouTube settings and preferences, including content from subscriptions and videos friends are sharing on Facebook.

Leanback is an attempt to give users an experience more akin to standard television, allowing them to watch video without searching for new clips and clicking around the site.

Google has also announced an update of its YouTube mobile site, promising increased speed and more “touch-friendly elements”.

The updated site includes much of the functionality of the .com site, such as search query suggestions, the ability to create playlists and to designate favourites and “like” or “unlike” videos.
