According to reports in the press, YouView looks set for another delay, possibly putting their “by the Olympics” promise at risk.
Broadcast Engineering reports that the project has been dogged by technical delays and arguments over content placing within its EPG.
It was originally planned to launch by the end of 2010, but this was soon put back to mid-2011, and then, for some time, today – February 14th 2012 – was set internally as the target launch date. A launch today would be quite a surprise!
There are suggestions that the platform will not be ready for full launch until late in Q2 2012, which will be getting perilously close to the London Olympics, which begin on July 27. YouView has also maintained that its hybrid set top boxes will be available before then.
