YouView will miss Olympics, perhaps Q4 2012 launch

Having been plagued by delays since inception, set-top box venture YouView now looks set to miss its next milestone launch date of the Olympics, with latest reports suggesting that the service will not be launched until the end of 2012.

The joint venture, headed up by Lord Sugar, is facing technical problems and according to “surallen” the project was not in a good enough shape to show to the public, beyond some small test circles.

In the past few days Freeview has recently launched a backwards search EPG, which was once one of the USPs of the YouView service. As time goes on and other technological advancements appear from other platforms, questions increase on whether the set-top box is too late to market.
