YTTV Proposals For The Future
Yorkshire Tyne Tees have announced proposals for the future following the increase in half yearly profits.
Ward Thomas, YTTV’s chairman and chief executive indicated that YTTV would be one of the bidders for the new FM radio frequency in Yorkshire which is due to be advertised shortly, possibly in conjunction with commercial radio station Minster Sound and united News and Media owner of the Yorkshire Post.
Mr Thomas denied that Yorkshire Tyne Tees had discussed the possibility of a take over by either ITV rival Granada or leisure group, Rank. Details also emerged of informal talks with French satellite broadcaster, Canal Plus about developing a digital service to compete with Rupert Murdoch’s pay-TV system.
With regard to the News at Ten re-scheduling YTTV said it believes that ITV can not afford not to. Bruce Gyngell, managing director of YTTV said moving News at Ten could result in a £75m increase in advertising revenue for ITV. Yorkshire Tyne Tees’ shares were down 11p this morning to 599p.
