YTTV To Bid For C5
Yorkshire Tyne Tees Television is to put together a consortium to mount a bid for Channel 5. Ward Thomas, chairman, said that he has started talks with potential partners, including US television companies.
This news come shortly after the statement from Frank Barlow, chief executive of Pearson, announcing that his company no longer regards C5 as viable. Pearson was part of a consortium, including Time Warner and MAI, which had expressed interest in C5, until the government announced that one of the available frequencies was being withdrawn.
Ward Thomas said that he was not concerned at this limit; “ITV started with a lot less than a 50% reach…the 50% will grow”. The ITC meets on Thursday to decide on whether to re-advertise C5.
