A new study by Mediavest Spark reveals that 36% of Brits expect robots to be running our lives in as little as 13 years.
The research also shows that one in 10 would be willing to pay more than £1,000 for a robot.
“In reality robots are already here so it’s surprising that more people don’t think they will be mainstream sooner,” said Rachel Forde, chief executive at Mediavest Spark.
“In terms of the technological advances, 2030 seems a long way away.”
Meanwhile, almost two thirds (64%) of the 2,000 people surveyed said they would mostly trust a robot to take care of household chores, and 30% for DIY.
An additional 6% admitted they would be looking for companionship with a robot.
On the other hand, 50% would not feel safe in a robot-controlled plane, and 34% would not want one driving their car.
Just 2% said they would trust a robot to look after their children.
“Our fascination with robots and artificial intelligence is increasing – just look at the rising popularity of technology like Amazon’s Alexa,” Forde added.
“We’ve long been aware of the potential for brands and advertisers, but our research highlights where more investment and innovation is needed for Brits to both trust and buy robots.”
A separate study by Radiocentre reveals 9% of UK homes already have one or more voice-controlled smart devices, such as Amazon Echo or Google Home, with the figure expected to rise to around 40% by 2018.
