Amazon Launches Streamed On-Demand TV And Movie Service

Computer Amazon.com is launching a new streamed video-on-demand service offering 40,000 TV shows and films, according to reports.

The new service streams the video as soon as a customer has paid for it, unlike the online store’s existing video download service Amazon Unbox which requires users to download a video to their hard drive before watching it.

Speaking to the New York Times, Bill Carr, Amazon’s vice president for digital media, said that Amazon had signed a deal with Sony to make the video-on-demand service available on Sony Bravia high-definition TVs.

The new on-demand service will be accessible to a select group of Amazon.com customers before being made available to everyone later this summer.

Carr added that Amazon is in discussions with other TV and internet companies about similar deals.
