Apple Offers Movie Downloads On Same Day As DVD Release

Apple iTunes is offering downloads of new movies on the same day as the DVDs are released, following deals with US film studios.

Studios involved include 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros, Paramount Pictures and Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Independent studios such as Lionsgate and First Look Studios are also taking part, with the first films made available to US subscribers last week for $14.99.

Older films are available at $9.99, with the films viewable on iPods and Apple TV, its TV service.

Eddy Cue, vice president of iTunes, said: “We’re thrilled to bring iTunes Store customers new films for purchase day-and-date with the DVD release.

“We think movie fans will love being able to buy their favourites from major and independent studios.”
