Asia-Pacific Wireless Telcom Industry To Reach $242.42 Billion By 2010

The Asia-Pacific wireless telecom industry is forecast to reach $242.42 billion in annual revenues by the end of 2010, up from $159.97 billion in 2005.

New figures from In-Stat, claim that the overall subscriber penetration rate for the region was about 25% in 2005, varying from 6.8% in India to 115% in Hong Kong.

Commenting on the figures, Bryan Wang, In-Stat analyst, said: “The introduction of 3G mobile services is enabling a new breed of services.

“In countries with successful 3G launches, like Japan, providers have enjoyed higher data services revenue, about 27.9% of total revenue in 2005, significantly higher than the overall regional rate of 19.9%.”

In-Stat also revealed that wireless service subscribers are expected to reach 1.57 billion in 2010, up from 859.4 million wireless service subscribers in the region.

The strength of the Asia-Pacific mobile phone market is confirmed by research from NPD Group, showing Japanese consumers are more likely to use a wide array of features on their handsets, including wireless mobile email, ringtone downloads, mobile gaming, picture messaging, digital music listening, video messaging, and mobile TV and video (see Japanese Consumers Surge Ahead In Advance Mobile Uptake).
