Bauer Media’s Paul Keenan promoted to board as chief operating officer

Paul Keenan, Bauer Media’s president of audio, has been promoted to group chief operating officer and has been appointed to the audio and magazine brand publisher’s executive board.

As COO Keenan is tasked with leading the business through the next phase of the its transformation and replaces Veit Dengler, who is leaving after four years at Bauer.

Bauer’s next stage of transformation will include “fine-tuning the strategy and organisation, as well as continuing to focus on operational excellence”.

As president of Bauer Media Audio Keenan led the development and growth of the business to now reach 57 million listeners weekly through 110 brands across eight countries: the UK, Ireland, Poland, Slovakia, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway.

Gerald Mai, Bauer’s general counsel, is also joining the board as chief legal officer. The board also includes owner/CEO Yvonne Bauer and chief financial officer Anna Sedgley.

Bauer said: “Paul has led the transformation of the Audio business to become the leading commercial broadcaster in Europe and prior to that led Bauer’s market leading UK publishing business. He is the perfect match as COO.”

She added: “The convergence of globalisation and digitisation is driving increased volatility, uncertainty, complexity and disruption. However, it also offers unprecedented opportunities for companies to expand their reach and increase their efficiency, if they adapt their strategies, business models, and operations.”
