BBC Food Magazines Cook Up Sponsorship Deals

BBC Good Food magazine has secured Starbucks Coffee Company as the sponsor of its 2005 World of Flavours calendar, which will come bagged to a bumper December issue of the magazine.

Produced by BBC Good Food in association with Starbucks, the branded calendar will feature a different recipe for each month of the year, along with a specially selected coffee designed to accompany the featured meal.

A 250 gram bag of Strabucks whole bean coffee will also be given away with the December issue of the magazine, which goes on sale next month. Readers will be able to claim the coffee in over 400 locations nation-wide by using a voucher found inside the magazine.

Meanwhile, the BBC’s upmarket food and travel title, Olive, has secured Lurpack as the sponsor of its 2005 calendar, which will feature a monthly recipe on how best to use butter. Both the Good Food and Olive calendars will carry sponsorship branding on the front and back covers, as well as on the recipe pages.

Commenting on the deals, Jane Sproul, head of sponsorship at BBC Magazines said: “Packed with the best recipes available, our food calendars have continually proved a huge hit with our readers and make a great addition to their kitchens. We’re really pleased to have Starbucks and Lurpak on board and together we’ve produced the best food covermounts on the news-stands for the Christmas period.”

The latest ABC results for the six months to June 2004 show that BBC Good Food magazine saw its circulation decline by 6.3% year on year to 304,144. The BBC’s recently launched Olive entered the market with a circulation of 63,517 as it targeted the ‘white plate generation’ of consumers who have embraced restaurant culture.

Earlier this week BBC Good Food magazine announced plans to launch a spin-off title called Vegetarian Christmas, aimed at readers catering for people with special dietry requirements over the festive period. The one-off title goes on sale on 5 November for eight weeks with a cover-price of £2.60 and an initial print run of 110,000 (see BBC Good Food Launches Vegetarian Spin-Off Title).
