BBC Worldwide content is to be made available on UK online video service BlinkBox.

The deal will see hundreds of hours of popular shows such as Top Gear and Spooks available to download for £1.99 per episode.

Older series, such as Hustle and Hotel Babylon will be free downloads that carry ads.

The content will go live on BlinkBox a minimum of 180 days after it has been broadcast on TV.

At the end of last year, BlinkBox signed deals with Twentieth Century Fox and Sony Pictures Television, giving users access to new and classic films.

It was revealed earlier this week that Microsoft’s online TV player has attracted almost 170,000 views since its launch on 3 August.

There were 167,487 views of shows such as Shameless and The Young Ones in the two weeks to 14 August.
