Blackburn Joins Smooth Radio London For Weekend Breakfast

Tony Blackburn Veteran DJ Tony Blackburn is to join London’s Smooth Radio as the presenter of its weekend breakfast show.

Blackburn, who left GCap Media’s Classic Gold before its merger with sister network Capital Gold last year (see New Gold Network Releases Schedule), will present his first show on Smooth on February 16.

“Smooth Radio is a wonderful station with a growing audience and a music format I love,” he said.

“I’m delighted to be joining up with some of the best loved names in the industry and really looking forward to bringing my own unique style of broadcasting to Smooth.”

The London station’s presenting line-up also includes Graham Dene, Mark Goodier and Lynn Parsons. Blackburn will present the weekend breakfast slot between 7am and 10am, Saturdays and Sundays, which is currently presented by Russell Pockett.

The Smooth Radio network, which also includes stations in the north-east, north-west, east and west midlands and Glasgow, is owned by GMG Radio.

Smooth Radio London’s breakfast show bolstered its weekly reach by 8.5% year on year at the latest Q4 2007 RAJARs, despite a period on period fall of 5.7%. The breakfast programme now reaches 217,000 listeners every week in the capital (see Capital Radio Scoops Breakfast Top Spot In London).
