Guardian Newspapers Ltd, today announced the appointment of Simon Waldman, Head of Guardian Unlimited, and Derek Gannon, Head of IT, to the Guardian Newspapers Ltd (GNL) Board. Their titles change to Director of Digital Publishing and IT Director respectively and Waldman and Gannon will join the eleven strong GNL Executive Board with immediate effect.

It is an appropriate time for Simon to take up a board position when we are developing our award winning internet operation even further with a new branding strategy, major marketing drive and further site launches this year.
“Derek has transformed our business by putting GNL’s IT operation ahead of its competitors. His achievements were acknowledged when GNL won the Best Use of Digital Communications Award given by Production Journal magazine in April 2000. We will continue to put major investment into the strategic development of our IT operation and Derek will play a vital role in spearheading this activity.”
