Broadband Users More Active Online, Says comScore

Although dial-up connections are still in the majority, broadband users in the US surf the web more intensively and are responsible for almost half of all the pages viewed, according to new research.

comScore Media Metrix found that 46 million of the country’s 142.7 million internet users in October 2002 connected to the web via broadband. However, despite the fact that they make up less than a third of the internet population, broadband users accounted for 44% of total usage minutes in the month.

The study also revealed that broadband users go online virtually every day while dial-up users surf the internet on 18 separate days in an average month. Broadband use is particularly prevalent in the workplace where 86% of users have high-speed connection. As a result, work and work related sites are particularly popular with these users. The research also found that 80% of broadband users visited retail sites in October.
