UK satellite broadcaster, BSkyB, has announced better than expected full year results revealing total revenue of over £4 billion for the year to end 30 June 2005.
The group reported an increase of 11% in turnover to £4,048 million, with operating profit up by 34% to £805 million and profit after tax increasing to £425 million, up 32% year on year.
BSkyB added 83,000 subscribers in the final quarter of the financial year, taking its subscriber base for the full year up to 7.8 million, an increase of 40,000 on the same time last year.
Sky+ households increased by 118,000 in the fourth quarter to reach 888,000, while multiroom households also enjoyed strong growth, rising by 82,000 in the same period, making a total of 645,000 for the full year.
Commenting on the results, James Murdoch, chief executive of BSkyB said: “The team delivered a set of results this year that demonstrates the health of our business and the strong position that the company occupies in this rapidly evolving marketplace.”
He continued: “We remain focused on providing the leading entertainment service in the UK and Ireland that continues to meet the changing needs of our customers and their families, offering great value and world-beating quality. In a highly competitive environment, we are confident in our ability to achieve our goals.”
BSkyB’s strong growth in the fourth quarter continues from quarter three, when it reported a 31% year on year increase in operating profit to £574 million and a 51% rise in earnings per share to 19.9 pence (see BSkyB Enjoys 31% Rise In Operating Profit).
