BT Signs Deals For TV Content And Mobile Platform

BT Logo Telecoms giant BT has signed a content licencing deal with programme maker Endemol, according to reports this morning, with the deal bringing the producer’s shows to BT’s forthcoming video on-demand service.

The deal will see Endemol, which is responsible for big name productions including Big Brother, provide content to BT’s yet to be launched TV offering, providing users with Freeview services supplemented by premium on-demand content.

Endemol’s tie up with BT follows several similar content deals announced at the end of last year, with BBC Worldwide, Paramount and Warner Music Group signing up to provide films and TV programmes to the broadband-based service (see BT Signs First Content Deals For IPTV Service).

Elsewhere BT is reported to have signed with Virgin Mobile to provide subscribers with a fully fledged TV service via their mobiles, broadcasting the signal via established DAB radio transmitters rather than using expensive GSM network bandwidth.

The tie up will see BT’s mobile TV system, developed in conjunction with Microsoft, roll out across Virgin’s network, with the telecoms giant offering the service to other networks on a wholesale basis.
