Capital FM Splits Top Management Role

Capital FM Splits Top Management Role

Captial Radio Capital FM’s managing director, Keith Pringle, has announced that Nik Goodman will be taking up the senior position of programme director for GCap Media’s flagship brand, 95.8 Capital FM.

The position will see Goodman leading a strong programming team at Capital FM, primarily taking responsibility for the on-air output. This involves generating and creating programme and promotional ideas, station imaging and talent development, working closely with Keith Pringle and continuing to build on the station’s recent success.

Commenting on the appointment, Pringle said: “Nik’s strong experience in commercial radio makes him the perfect candidate to take up this role. His leadership and people skills are exceptional and I am confident he will work well with the senior management team to take the station forward, building in the achievements of the last 18 months.”

Over the past two years, Pringle has combined the two roles of managing director and programming director successfully, developing and launching new Breakfast and Drivetime shows as well as spearheading the stations’ revitalisation strategy.

He added: “After two years doing two jobs I feel that 95.8 Capital FM needs a full time managing director to drive the station forward and to look at the bigger picture. Over the last 18 months Capital has become fresher and more in touch with London and I look forward to raising the bar even higher working closely with Nik and the rest of the management team.”

Goodman commented: “Capital FM is at the top of the programming tree, there’s a great team there and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

In the latest RAJAR figures Capital FM topped the charts, retaining its position as the clear favourite for Londoners in the morning, drawing in 1.24 million listeners, despite rising only 9.56% quarter on quarter in terms of weekly reach (see RAJAR Results Q1 2005: Listeners Hungry For Breakfast Shows).

Earlier this year, Capital dropped long-serving DJ Neil Fox from its schedules in favour of former Blue Peter presenter Richard Bacon, selected to front the station’s daily Drive Time show which started this spring (see Capital Drops Fox As Bacon Takes Drive Time).

Capital said that Bacon was the “number one choice” to replace ‘Foxy’ in one of the most keenly sought jobs in radio as a result of his “experience and success as a broadcaster.”
