Channel 4 Donates Big Brother Vote Revenue To Tsunami Relief

Channel 4 has announced that it will now donate an extra percentage of the revenue generated by votes for Celebrity Big Brother to the south east Asia tsunami relief effort, resulting in all profits from viewer voting being donated to charity.

The broadcaster had previously pledged to donate 16p of every vote via telephone, mobile and interactive TV to the celebrity housemates’ nominated charities. However, Channel 4 and Big Brother producers Endemol UK have since decided that the remaining profits from the public vote, amounting to 9p per vote, should go to the appeal to help victims of the tsunami.

In addition, some celebrity housemates have chosen the tsunami appeal as their chosen charity, meaning that a portion of the initial 16p per vote will also be donated.

The new arrangement means that, for every one million votes cast in Celebrity Big Brother, £90,000 will go to the tsunami appeal, in addition to the money already being raised for the housemates’ chosen charities.
