Channel 4 Makes Richard & Judy Charity Payment

Money Channel 4 has made a £50,000 payment to Great Ormond Street Hospital following the scandal which erupted over the Richard & Judy You Say We Pay premium-rate phone quiz.

The You Say We Pay quiz was axed in February following claims that people who rang in attempting to win a prize had no chance of being selected (see Richard & Judy Phone Quiz Controversy Takes New Twist).

Following the furore, Channel 4 offered to refund money to any participants affected by the scandal.

Channel 4 said that its payment to Great Ormond Street shows that it is intending to fulfill its promise to donate to charity the money made from the quiz which was not claimed as a refund.

The premium-rate phone line regulator Icstis is currently investigating the You Say We Pay quiz, and recently had to reject newspaper claims that it had already ruled on the matter (see Icstis Denies Sun and Star Claims).

In April, Icstis announced that it would be introducing tough new rules for phone-in quizes. The new rules, which follow a spate of dodgy TV phone quizes, insist on better pricing information and greater transparency about how likely calls are to get through (see Icstis Gets Tough With New TV Quiz Rules).
