On Monday, Allen joined Big Brother producer Endemol as a non-executive director (see Charles Allen To Make TV Industry Return).

The ex-chief executive of ITV, who resigned from the broadcaster in 2006, is also non-executive chairman of Global Radio, owner of radio brands including Heart and Capital.

John Rigsby, a former senior executive at Time Warner, has also joined the Virgin Media board as a non-executive director.

Jim Mooney, chairman of Virgin Media, said: “With the appointment of Charles and John to our board, we have added further world class experience and expertise to our team.

“Charles brings unrivaled experience in the UK media sector from his 15 years leading the UK’s key commercial broadcast companies and John brings extensive experience from both the telecoms and cable sectors.”
