Cosmopolitan Offers Online Readers Financial Advice

Cash-strapped Cosmopolitan readers have been thrown a lifeline by the magazine’s website as it prepares to launch a new online service offering impartial financial advice.

The new service, dubbed CosmoMoney, will build on the popularity of the magazine’s website, cosmopolitan.co.uk and will offer advice on getting the best deals on everything from household bills to personal finance companies.

The new channel will allow users to evaluate their current gas, electricity and credit providers by comparing them against rival companies to find the best deals available. Cosmo claims the easy to use service will take the confusion out of personal finance and remove the contrasting advice which hampers less confident readers.

Commenting on the initiative, James Garner, web producer of Cosmopolitan.co.uk, explained the benefits of the new site. He said: “Our aim is to help readers take advantage of the best tariffs and services on offer from every supplier. You simply enter your current payments for a particular service and our calculators will evaluate whether you are getting the best deal for your individual needs.”

Cosmopolitan saw its circulation remain fairly stable in the latest consumer ABC results for the six months to June 2004. The title suffered a slight 1.2% year on year decline, but is planning a major advertising push to strengthen its position in the sector after hiring a new editor (see Cosmopolitan Appoints Former Company Girl As New Editor).
