Discounts For Virgin Media Customers

Virgin Media Logo Virgin Media is offering discounts to customers thinking of ending their contracts following the dispute which saw Sky’s basic channels removed from the cable platform.

Disgruntled customers will be offered discounts on a case by case basis, according to reports in the trade press, with the XL TV package expected to see a discount of around £9.75 for six months.

On Monday, Virgin Media said it would give Sky 30 days to resolve the dispute over the carriage of the Sky basic channels (see Virgin Media Threatens Legal Action Over Sky Channel Dispute) before taking the company to court.

In a presentation to City analysts yesterday, Virgin Media chief executive, Steve Burch, said that Virgin expects to add to its 3.35 million TV customers in the three months between January and March.

Burch added that Virgin Media is no longer interested in making a bid for ITV following Sky’s acquisition of a 17.9% stake in the broadcaster last year (see Branson Bites Back At Sky’s Swoop On ITV)

Earlier today it was revealed that ITV has told both Ofcom and the Office of Fair Trading that it is concerned Sky’s 17.9% stake could give the satellite broadcaster too much voting power (see Grade Says ITV Lacks Innovation As Profits Decline).
