EastEnders Could Go Five Nights A Week

Eastenders The BBC is considering airing an extra episode of EastEnders each week, and is understood to undertaking a feasibility test to assess the impact another episode might have on the production schedule.

The extra episode could take on a Wednesday night slot and go up against Coronation Street or The Bill.

Over the last twelve months the gritty soap has had an average of 8.9 million viewers, with a peak of 11.5 million watching on Christmas day as Pauline Fowler passed away.

If an extra episode of the show does go ahead on Wednesday evenings, it will line up alongside the second series of The One Show, which launches this summer at 7pm.

The One Show, the BBC’s biggest ever factual commission, will be fronted by Adrian Chiles, after the BBC announced two weeks ago that co-presenter Nadia Sawalha would not be returning.

At the moment EastEnders airs on BBC One on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, followed by an omnibus on Sunday afternoons.
