Emap Announces New Interactive Team To Boost Big Brands

Emap Elan, the women’s magazine division of Emap, has announced a restructuring of its interactive team to enhance its current online offerings as well as increasing profit and improving website content.

The company currently operates websites for New Woman, Bliss and More Magazine. Interactive operations will now be run by Catherine Hanly as managing editor reporting to Carmel Hayes, development director for Emap Elan.

Hanly’s previous experience includes a four-year stint as editor of Emap’s hugely successful Empire Online website. Her new role will see her training a newly created central design and production team which will then work across Emap’s entire web portfolio.

Emap’s collection of websites already provide healthy revenue streams for the company, but will come under closer scrutiny with the introduction of Hanly’s team.

Among the best performing Emap Sites is that of Bliss Magazine. Targeting the teenage market it has built up a thriving web community, while moremagazine.co.uk launched straight into profit thanks to a five figure advertising deal. Similarly, newwoman.co.uk quickly achieved profitability following high-profile advertising deals with Lancome, Dove, Ford and Nike.

Commenting on the appointment, Carmel Hayes said: “We are delighted that the success of our web portfolio now allows us to create a dedicated team committed to delivering quality editorial and visually absorbing sites. We have already proved that financially successful magazine websites are viable propositions, and the restructure allows us to extend our ownership of the women’s website market.

Earlier this week the magazine giant refuted allegations made by the Media Guardian that two high-profile magazine launches have been scrapped as part of cost cutting measures across the publishing group (see Emap Denies U-Turn On New Launches).
