Entries now open for the 2019 Mediatel Media Research Awards

Today the 2019 Mediatel Media Research Awards has opened for entries, with media owners, industry bodies, researchers and agencies invited to enter their projects for consideration.

The fifth annual awards, hosted by Mediatel, celebrate the very best in media research. To further recognise research accomplishments on a global scale, 2019 will see the addition of an international category.

The 2018 Media Research Awards saw Channel 4 take home the Grand Prix prize with its project ‘Contextual Moments’, which judge Richard Shotton, deputy head of evidence at MGOMD, praised as “exceptional work”.

Other winners in 2018 included the trade body Newsworks, indy media agency the7stars, Exterion Media, Wavemaker and Ipsos Connect.

For the 2019 awards, categories will include:

Best Custom Media Research Project (Media Owner)
Best Custom Media Research Project (Trade Body)
Best Custom Media Research Project (Agency)
Best Media Research Tracking or Syndicated Project
Best International Media Research Project
Excellence in Measuring a Media Campaign
Best Use of Data Sets
Best Social Media Project
Excellence in Research Presentation
Research Agency Team of the Year
Media Owner/Trade Body of the Year
Media Agency of the Year

The deadline for entries to be submitted is Friday 12 October; winners will be revealed at a prestigious awards lunch on Tuesday 19 February 2019, with a Grand Prix Award chosen from winners of the project-based categories.

Head judge and owner of Research the Media, Richard Marks, said: “Each year the number of entries has grown significantly, which reflects not just the increasing stature of the awards event (you have to be in it to win it!), but also the vibrant health of the UK media research industry.”

According to Marks, researchers are building upon survey research and panels with ‘big data’, ethnography, neuroscience and VR to help the advertising industry meet a growing list of challenges, including voice control and social media.

“So it’s not surprising that as a result the judging panel is expanding as well. We rely on the time that they give us, so thanks to the judges in advance for their efforts this year,” he said.

This year’s judges include Google’s head of UK market insights Jonny Protheroe, Newsworks director of insight Denise Turner, IPA research director Lynne Robinson and Newsline editor David Pidgeon. A full list of judges is to follow shortly.
