GfK Survey Shows Heart Taking Lead In Capital

GfK Radio research firm, GfK Media, has released the results of its Broadcast Media Survey, reporting that Heart 106.2 FM has overtaken Capital FM as the number one radio station in London, securing victory by an extremely narrow margin.

GfK’s survey for the period September 13th – March 27th shows Heart with a weekly reach of 2.72 million, 25,000 more than Capital at 2.047 million. Meanwhile, Emap’s Magic FM came in third with a weekly reach of 1.92 million.

Emap’s Kiss FM now holds fourth position in the capital, according to GfK, attracting 1.502 million listeners, with the combined AM and FM Virgin stations bringing in 1.479 million to secure fifth place.

Elsewhere, the Wireless Group’s talkSPORT station obtained 1.42 million listeners, while LBC 97.3 FM had a weekly reach of 1.26 million, followed by Classic FM with 1.13 million.

GfK’s survey is conducted using Radiocontrol’s portable audiometer, incorporated into participants wristwatches, measuring radio listening by means of audio comparison.

Tomorrow will see radio audience measurement body RAJAR release its data for the three months to March.
