Guardian To Raise Cover Price From Monday

Guardian Cover The Guardian is to raise its cover price by 10p on Monday, putting it on a par with the Independent at 70p and continuing the trend for rising cover prices which began last September.

The title’s new cover price will fall behind the Financial Times and Racing Post, priced at £1 and £1.30 respectively, holding joint third position with the Independent in terms of price at the newsstand.

Last year saw the Guardian downsize to the mid-sized Berliner format (see Guardian Hits Newsstands In Berliner Format), with Sunday sister title the Observer due to follow this weekend (see Berliner Sized Observer To Launch Early January).

Rival newspapers the Times and Daily Telegraph increased their cover prices to 60p and 65p respectively last year, while the Independent added 5p earlier this week. The price of the Saturday Guardian will also increase in line with the weekday edition, rising by 10p to £1.30.
