Guardian’s circulation decline continues

Daily Market

Several titles displayed small period on period increases in August, according to the latest ABC results.

With a 0.7% increase, i added nearly 2,000 copies, whilst Daily Mail had a 0.2% increase.

Within the popular market, Daily Record, Daily Mirror and Daily Star all had PoP circulation increases, of 1.3%, 0.2% and 0.4% respectively.

Looking year on year, both Daily Telegraph and Times have increased their circulations, up 2.9% and 1.2% respectively.

Meanwhile, Guardian had the largest PoP decline in the market, down -2.2%, whilst Financial Times declines by -1.1%.

Overall the daily market was down -0.4% over the period and -5.4% over the year.

Sunday Market

Sunday Express recorded a 1% increase in August PoP, adding nearly 3,500 onto its circulation.

Meanwhile, in the popular market, both Sun on Sunday and Sunday Mail had increases of 0.3% and 2.1%, adding 4,500 on the Sun on Sunday and over 3,000 onto Sunday Mail.

Sunday Times took the biggest hit, losing 1% of its circulation PoP, however it is still comfortably the largest title in the quality market at 758,000 copies.

Overall the market was down -0.3% PoP and -10.1% YoY.

London Free Press

Circulation for London Evening Standard was down -5.5% compared with the previous month – a loss of 49,000 copies.

City A.M.‘s circulation remained fairly flat over the period, with a -0.6% decline translating to a loss of just over 500 copies.

Although Metro was down -1.6% PoP, its circulation increased 17.0% year-on-year, helping to boost the overall market by 7% over the year.
