Hachette Closes B Magazine Following Review

B Cover Hachette Filipacchi has announced the closure of its women’s magazine, B, with the title’s current edition being its last to retail in the UK.

The magazine was suspended from publication last month, with an internal review conducted by Hachette resulting in the decision to close the title permanently.

Kevin Hand, chairman of Hachette Filipacchi UK, announced the move, stating: “The young women’s market has seen a sharp decline in sales and this shows no sign of improving. Hachette is a forward thinking publisher which aims to create and sell the best products possible in their respective markets. B no longer represents a long-term viable business proposition in our portfolio and we intend to invest our resources in our new launch Psychologies and our recent acquisition Real Homes, combined with developing our digital operations.”

Psychologies launched late last year, offering readers a glossy insight into the lives of “Third Wave Women”, with editorial reflecting a female reader whose needs are not currently met by other women’s magazines.

The title, which is modelled on its long-running French counterpart, was the first title to be launched by Hachette since the company was established in 2002 (see Hachette’s Psychologies Launches Tomorrow).
