IPC Appoints New MD For SouthBank

IPC Logo IPC Media has announced the appointment of Jackie Newcombe, publishing director of Marie Claire, as the new managing director of IPC SouthBank and Wallpaper*.

The position will be taken up by Newcombe on 3 January 2006, with the media mogul overseeing IPC’s portfolio of fashion, women’s general interest and home interest monthlies.

Amongst those falling under her remit will be Marie Claire, In Style and Woman & Home, as well as international design, interiors and lifestyle title, Wallpaper*. The new role will see Newcombe report directly to IPC CEO Sylvia Auton.

The new post is a major step up for Newcombe, who joined IPC’s graduate scheme in 1981. Her career with the magazine giant has seen her hold senior advertising and publishing posts, before parting ways with the publisher for a three year stint as a managing director in contract publishing.

Newcombe returned to IPC in September 2003 to run Marie Claire, owned by European Magazines Ltd, the joint venture between IPC and Groupe Marie Claire.

Commenting on Newcombe’s latest appointment, Sylvia Auton said: “Jackie is a true publishing professional with a proven track record and a clear strategic vision. I am delighted that she is joining the IPC Media Board and I’m looking forward to working with her.”

Newcombe added: “SouthBank and Wallpaper* employ the most fantastically talented people, who publish some of the country’s most famous and best-loved magazines. It is a real thrill for me to have been asked to lead the team at this very exciting time for IPC. With Time Warner and Time Inc.’s backing, we are very much on the front foot and I’m looking forward to developing our portfolio of titles and to growing the business.”
