Japan’s Online Population Will Hit 104 Million by 2005

Recent forecasts from IDC suggest that Japan’s online population may grow to more that 104 million by 2005. ICD also forecast that this rise will be mainly due to the increase in mobile phones to access the net.

In 2000, Japan’s internet audience stood at around 39.8 million people, just over 30% of the population, this figure will rise to 80% if IDC’s forecasts are correct

IDC also predicts that the total number of registered internet accounts, taking into account overlaps as users access the net via multiple platforms, will reach 230 million by 2005 based on annual growth forecasts of 28.5 %. 86.3 million of these accounts are expected to come from users accessing via mobile phones.
