Kangaroo Could Launch As SeeSaw

Kangaroo Logo Kangaroo, the forthcoming broadband TV service from BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4, could be launched under the name SeeSaw.

It is understood that a shortlist of possible names for the service has been drawn up, with some executives favouring SeeSaw.

However, according to a report on MediaGuardian.co.uk, a source close to the project believes there has been “a move away” from the name recently, while another said that there would now be more research and consumer testing of a number of brand names.

It has also been revealed that Ashley Highfield, outgoing director of future media and technology at the BBC, will begin his job as Kangaroo chief executive on July 1.

Highfield, who will be responsible for the roll-out of the new service, will replace interim chief executive Leslie MacKenzie (see Highfield To Leave BBC For Kangaroo).

He will also be tasked with securing video-on-demand rights to foreign programmes, ensuring the technical capability of the platform and deciding who will sell advertising.

Former Microsoft executive Erik Huggers has been tipped as a possible replacement for Highfield as director of future and media technology.
