Kangaroo report published tomorrow

Kangaroo Sign The Competition Commission has completed its enquiry into Project Kangaroo and will unveil its findings tomorrow morning.

Kangaroo – the joint video-on-demand service from BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4 – was referred to the Competition Commission by the Office of Fair Trading in June last year, with the Commission’s inquiry delaying the launch of the service.

In a provisional report published in December, the Commission said that the proposed service would “restrict competition” in the UK, adding that it “is likely to result in a substantial lessening of competition in the supply of UK TV VoD content” (see Competition Commission: Kangaroo “will restrict competition”).

However, the report named a number of remedies to overcome competition issues, including controlling the way that content is offered to other providers and making material modifications to the venture.

It added that the Commission could potentially ban the broadcasters from “forming any such joint venture” if it is found to breach competition rules.
