Kerrang! Launches First Magazine Podcast

Kerrang! Cover Emap’s Kerrang! has launched its own podcast, marking a first for music magazines, with the 30-minute show showcasing the best in music, interviews and the latest news from the world of rock.

The first edition of the programme will be hosted by Kerrang! journalist, Simon Young, and will include music from Boston based Cave In, and interview with Every Time I Die’s frontman Keith Buckley, and an exclusive track from heavy metal comedian Brian Posehn’s album ‘Live In: Nerd Rage’.

Commenting on the podcast, Nick Knowles from Kerrang! said: “Podcasting is still in its relative infancy and the possibilities of the format are continually being explored. Kerrang! readers are heavy users of the web so it’s important we are at the forefront of new digital technology.”

He continued: “Our podcast gives an added dimension to the magazine and builds on the talents of our editorial staff and further enhances our position as a cross-platform brand, able to use existing resources, the wealth of talent at Emap Radio and our on-line team.”

Meanwhile, GCap Media’s indie music station Xfm has teamed up with V2 Music to compile the first original music based content for podcast, giving listeners the chance to download free, legal podcasts (see Xfm Teams Up With V2 Music In Podcasting Venture).

The 15-minute podcast features exclusive versions of three songs from Elbow’s current album, Leaders of the Free World, as well as exerpts from an interview with lead singer Guy Garvey. The podcast will be updated a week later with three songs by The Rakes, followed by Stereophonics and Nada Surf.

Elsewhere the BBC has also embraced the podcasting phenomenon, making a total of 22 radio shows available for download (see BBC Expands Podcasting Trial To Determine Listener Tastes), while BBC director general, Mark Thompson, has pledged to drive the Corporation forward with the adoption of the very latest broadcasting technologies, including podcasting and on-demand internet radio including podcasting and on-demand internet radio (see Thompson Pledges Drive For Digital Revolution).
