Life On Mars Joins Soaps In Ratings Win

Life On Mars John Simm continued to draw viewers to BBC One last night, as his staring role in time travelling police drama Life on Mars drew an average adult audience of 6.4 million.

The Corporation’s impressive primetime performance was enough to see off competition from ITV1’s Northern Lights, with 5.7 million, and Channel 4’s shock medical documenary, Half Ton Man, which drew 4.5 million.

Elsewhere, BBC One’s audiences looked lacklustre however, with only soap stalwart Eastenders notching up a victory over its terrestrial rivals. The show drew over 10 million viewers for a dose of Monday night misery in Albert Square, performing well as the filling of a soap sandwich, between ITV1’s Coronation Street double bill.

Preceding Corrie‘s first outing of the evening was Emmerdale, putting in a respectable performance and drawing 8.3 million before the Coronation Street double drew 10 million and 9.2 million.

Five saw its largest audience of the evening with Prison Break, as an average of 1.7 million adults tuned in to the American drama.
