Life On Mars Sees Northern Lights Dimmed

Life On Mars BBC One’s time travelling detective drama Life on Mars continued to perform well last night, outshining its nearest rival, ITV’s Northern Lights with an average adult audience of 5.9 million.

ITV’s comparative audience of 5.1 million was enough to top Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother, however, which drew 4.3 million in the same time slot.

Five’s new American thriller Prison Break performed well for the broadcaster, drawing a healthy adult audience of 1.7 million on average.

Elsewhere, an intellectual 90 minutes on BBC Two, comprising University Challenge and language programme Balderdash and Piffle, proved popular, as the two shows drew 2.7 and 2.3 million respectively.
