Lincs FM Scoops Ofcom’s Latest Radio Licence

Radio Transmitter Media regulator Ofcom has awarded the latest local FM licence for Rotherham to Lincs FM Group, who will now operate a “truly local radio station” for the area, under the Rother FM brand.

The victory sees Lincs FM Group see off competition from two other applicants with its proposal for a station delivering a “high quality news and information service that puts Rotherham first.”

The new station will also feature a popular and “distinctive” blend of music, designed to make Rother FM appeal to “adults and children alike.”

The Rotherham area covers around 200,000 adults (aged 15+), however Ofcom states that, due to the limited frequency resource available for the station, it will not be possible to serve the entire borough.

The station’s exact coverage will be determined by technical factors, including the location of the transmission site. Ofcom proposes a frequency of 96.1 MHz for the new station, although this is subject to international agreement.

The new licence is issued for a twelve year period, with Rother FM expected to begin broadcasting at the earliest opportunity, and no later than two years from the award date.
